Dr. Adelle Anthony-Williams initially learned about the concept of collective giving as a participant in the 2005 Impact Fund Class with the Foundation For The Carolinas and was impressed by the notion that her financial contribution and its impact would be magnified through collective giving circles.
Originally from Brooklyn, Adelle is the youngest of three children born to Caribbean immigrants. She has been married for over 30 years and is a mom to two sons. A graduate of the New York University School of Medicine, Adelle trained in anesthesiology at Yale New-Haven Hospital and completed a fellowship in Pain Management at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. She is board certified in anesthesiology and pain management and is an expert in office-based procedures in plastic surgery, urology, general surgery, otolaryngology, and gynecology for over 10 years.
In 2007, Adelle received an invitation from Sonja Nichols to attend a Women’s Impact Fund membership meeting and according to Adelle, the rest is history. Over the past 15 years, She has volunteered on the membership and grants committees, focusing on healthcare, and served as an at-large board member.
“During my years of involvement with WIF, I was blown away learning about challenges facing our environment, I gained insights into the needs of the arts community, and learned about innovative programming among educational institutions.”
She says the joy of being a member of WIF is multifold. “Learning about the community in which you live, and understanding the vulnerabilities that impact your neighbors, helps you be a better citizen.”
Adelle loves that membership with WIF is dynamic and allows you to be as present as your time allows. She adds, “WIF is an excellent way to find where your true passions may be. I have seen members go on to volunteer and assume leadership roles in local nonprofits. Collective giving circles are so immensely powerful, and I feel honored to have been part of this great legacy in Charlotte. I advise new members to join a committee, meet some fantastic ‘women who rock’ in our community, and consider using their talent to make an enormous community impact.”
